In light of the recent cuts to Australia’s foreign aid budget, a recent poll reveals that 42% of Australians aged 18-29 oppose cuts to the aid budget.

Even more alarming for the Abbott Government ahead of next year’s election is that 63% of Generation Y respondents said Australian aid will be an important voting issue for them. 43% of these respondents also said the level of Australian aid should increase.

These polls show that young Australians are concerned global citizens who know that Australia’s future and a better world are related to one another.

The $1 billion AUD cut to Australia’s foreign aid made the nation the least generous it has ever been. However, there is an increasing number of Australians expounding the benefits of increasing aid in the lead up to next year’s election.

With our growing movement of global citizens, together we must help Australia to reverse course.
