If you weren’t already dreaming of going to Hogwarts or attending school in London, here’s one more reason to look into spending your study time in the UK.

Angelina Jolie will be joining as a visiting professor at the London School of Economics (LES) in the Centre for Women, Security and Peace.

The program starts in August and leads with classes such as 'Women, Peace and Security', 'Gender and Militarisation' and 'Gender and Human Rights' according to LES.

Jolie is a well-versed expert on the subjects, serving as UN Goodwill Ambassador from 2001-2012 and as UNHCR Special Envoy since 2012, and co-founder of the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative.

She has spent countless hours making visits to Syrian refugees, displaced Iraqis, and women and children affected by conflict in many parts of the world.

Jolie will be joined by Jane Connors, Director of International Advocacy at Amnesty International Geneva; The Rt Hon The Lord William Hague, former UK Foreign Secretary; and Madeleine Rees OBE, Secretary General of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, who will all be a part of the Centre for Women, Peace and Security according to the announcement from LES.

“I hope other academic institutions will follow this example, as it is vital that we broaden the discussion on how to advance women’s rights and end impunity for crimes that disproportionately affect women, such as sexual violence in conflict,” Jolie told the Independent.

When it comes to discussions on achieving peace, ending conflict and providing security, those who are most affected by these issues (women) are often left out of the conversation. Positions in government and leadership have a gender bias that bars women from talks on solutions. These are issues that Jolie and others at LES can bring to light for young scholars and for the world.

Professor Christine Chinkin, Director of the Centre for Women, Peace and Security said: “Bringing practitioners, policy makers and activists together with scholars is essential in advancing knowledge and influencing global and local policy-making.”

Jolie has seen and spoken up for some of the world’s most vulnerable for a long time, and now she will be passing on knowledge and engaging and educating youth on social action. She'll hopefully inspire future world leaders, so that in the years ahead, women will always have a place at the table when it comes to talks of peace and security.

Cheers Angelina Jolie for taking on this important role!
