This is part two of a weekly series following the story of Nelly, a 10-year-old girl living in Dzikunze, Kenya whose family is striving to live hungerfree. Check out the first part of the story here.

When Nelly wakes up in the morning, she gets ready for school. She has to get up early so she can help her family prepare breakfast before walking to school with her siblings. The walk isn’t too far and she is glad they can make it together. Walking is pretty normal; they have to walk to get water, too, but only when there isn’t enough rain.  Sometimes there isn’t enough food for two meals, so Nelly and her family have to wait until dinner to eat.

Nelly has big dreams for her future, but just like any 10-year-old, she also loves playing with her friends. Jumping rope is always a favorite. Lately, Nelly and her friends have been playing with a homemade soccer ball they made with string and old fabric scraps.

This is a day in her life.

For the next few weeks, join us as we follow Nelly. Through programming by World Vision’s HungerFree, Nelly’s family is learning the skills they need to have food for a lifetime. Someday soon, Nelly hopes to have three meals in her day. But a hungerfree world doesn’t happen on its own.

A hungerfree world starts with you.
