In the year 2000, global leaders met together in Senegal and committed to increase access to education for every child. Despite this commitment, around half of the world’s countries have failed to ensure that all of the world’s children go to primary school. In plain and simple terms, this means that 121 million kids and adolescents remain out of school.

There is loads of work left to do.

Without further investment in education, it will be hard to get all kids into school. As a share of government spending, expenditure on education has changed little since 1999.

That is why Global Poverty Project is committed to ensuring that education is fully financed. At Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day, I was thrilled to hear key Members of Congress like Nita Lowey and Barbara Lee pledge their support for increased funding for the Global Partnership for Education.
