11 people to follow on Instagram for off-beat World Cup coverage

By now you’ve probably heard a lot about this year’s World Cup. Maybe you’ve read about some Brazilians' discontent with government spending, you’ve seen photographs of protestors violently clashing with police, or you’ve heard about residents being displaced from their homes (if not, we’ve got you covered).

There’s been a lot of positive press too- I’ve been amazed to see pictures depicting streets covered with decorations in anticipation of the games, and I’ve enjoyed learning about all of the players (thank you, Vogue and Buzzfeed for the eye candy).

A less conventional way to experience the games is through Instagram. Today many of the world’s top photojournalists are using their Instagram accounts to share their own unique perspectives on the World Cup, depicting everything from life in the favelas, ecstatic fans, and a stadium worker.

Here are 11 accounts you’ll want to follow:

1. @jonasbendiksen : See his Still Films work-in-progess at jonasbendkisen.com

2. @abdrodrigo : A statue outside the stadium

3. @tomprotti : Happy fans!

4. @martinsalicea : From a little girl's point of view...

5. @reuterssport : Patriotism

6. @behrouzz : Stadium at night

7. @oliverweiken : View from the sky

8. @joaopinaphoto : Passion for soccer

9. @akirchuk : Rooting for his favorite player

10. @meerimatildakouta : Sex workers demanding action

11. @mario_tama : A woman living beneath Olympic highway construction
