She is a journalism graduate from the University of Johannesburg, and has contributed to digital platforms like Design Indaba, and the magazines Ayiba and Live. When not teaching and reading to children as a volunteer in her community, Mbali also enjoys listening to classic hip-hop music and dreaming of becoming a rapper in her next lifetime.
