Every year, approximately 303,000 women die from complications related to pregnancy and childbirth, with 99% of these deaths occurring in developing countries. Many health systems are currently redirecting financial resources and supplies away from sexual and reproductive health services, and access to family planning, antenatal care, and other critical services are at risk.

Investing in access to modern contraception for women and girls represents an essential pathway to gender equality, inclusion, and helps give every girl the tools to decide her own future.

UNFPA Supplies – the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency – works to ensure that women in vulnerable situations can count on access to information, services, and supplies to protect their sexual and reproductive health and rights. UNFPA Supplies has reached over 20 million women and girls every year with life-saving information and education, health supplies, and support.

But now their essential work is under threat. Cuts during COVID-19 have left them with a nearly $180million funding gap for 2023 – putting the lives and futures of millions of the world’s most vulnerable women and girls at risk.

By ensuring that women and girls have access to the services and information they need to make informed decisions about their lives, we can create a more just and equitable world for all.
