The EU has one of the biggest environmental footprints on Earth—and right now, much of what it buys is helping destroy forests far from home.
Soy used for livestock feed, beef, palm oil, coffee, and cocoa are all entering Europe from countries like Brazil, Indonesia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo — often linked to illegal land grabs, deforestation, and threats to Indigenous communities.
The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) was designed to stop this. But after industry lobbying, it’s been delayed — giving companies more time to keep profiting while forests fall.
This October, EU leaders will review how the law is being rolled out. That means we have a chance to speak up and make sure they know: citizens everywhere want forests protected, Indigenous voices respected, and the law enforced — no more backtracking.
