Never have our oceans and marine life been in more danger. And one of the biggest threats? Plastic pollution. It’s been estimated the amount of plastic will outnumber fish in the ocean by 2050.
Instead of being overwhelmed by the breadth of the problem we want to encourage all global citizens to each take action in simple everyday ways. If we all do something small it can add up to make a big difference.
The feature length Australian documentary Blue encourages everyone to do their bit and become ‘ocean guardians’ as a way of protecting the world’s oceans.
One way to do this is to help clean up the beach. Simply commit to ‘take 3 for the sea’ by picking up 3 pieces of rubbish each time you leave the beach, a waterway or...anywhere!
It doesn’t matter if you don’t live near the beach, you can take part by picking up 3 or more pieces of rubbish anywhere you are. Most litter ends up in our waterways and makes it’s way into the ocean eventually.
Take notice of what it is you find each time. Is it mostly plastic straws, food packaging, bottle tops, plastic bags? Share a photo of what you collect on social media using the hashtag #Take3forthesea
By pledging to take 3 for the sea you are helping to reduce global pollution, which is threatening to choke our oceans and harming marine life such as seabirds, turtles, and fish.
You are well and truly on your way to becoming a Ocean Guardian!
