The Amazon River Mouth is one of the richest and most fragile areas in the world—full of life, unique biodiversity, and traditional communities. But all of this is threatened: Petrobras wants to explore oil there despite huge risks and incomplete studies.
Scientists have already warned that the studies done so far are insufficient and that if there is a spill, it will be nearly impossible to contain the environmental damage. Additionally, the noise and movement of machinery can affect the lives and behavior of animals like fish, turtles, manatees, and even whales.
Betting on oil now, in the very year Brazil hosts COP30, is a step backward: we need clean, renewable energy — which is viable and essential to fight the climate crisis. Oil exploration in the Amazon worsens climate impacts, increases environmental disasters, and will negatively affect the economy, electricity bills, food prices, and more.
That’s why public pressure is essential. When thousands of people speak together, leaders listen. Send a tweet or tag President @LulaOficial, @petrobras, and @MinasEnergia demanding: No Oil in the Amazon!
