Smallholder farmers stand at the frontline of the climate crisis. They are not only the backbone of their communities but also feed 80% of the African continent. Yet rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and pest outbreaks, are putting their livelihoods—and our food security—at risk.
This is why urgent action to protect them and secure the future of our food is needed.
Recently, twenty young dedicated farmers and agripreneurs came together to draft a Demand Paper on locally-led adaptation for smallholder farmers. This outlines the top three challenges smallholder farmers face in adapting to the climate crisis as well as three key demands for the international community.
With the 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) fast approaching, we must stand alongside them to ensure this vital call for support is not missed by our leaders. They have written an open letter and need our voices behind it. Will you add your name?
