Learn More about this cause:

Can you imagine risking your life to have a child? For millions of women and girls there is no other option. Globally, 800 women a day die from pregnancy and childbirth.

Without access to safe contraception, women are left vulnerable to pregnancy, often when they are too young – with horrific consequences. A teen girl is twice as likely to die in pregnancy and childbirth than older women. If she survives, pregnancy at a young age often means she will marry young, will never get to finish her education, and will be more likely to suffer sexual abuse and domestic violence. This is an appalling inequality.

Every woman should be free to plan her future. For the past 50 years, the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) has provided women around the world with information on family planning, distributed safe contraception, and given critical medication to women.

Right now, UNFPA Supplies — the world’s largest provider of family planning services — needs USD $350 million to carry out its life-changing work. With this money, more than 20 million women and girls can safely be in control of their futures.

In November, leaders will meet in Kenya for the International Conference on Population and Development — a key opportunity for governments to take a stand. Tell world leaders — including the UK, Canada, Australia and Germany — to pledge new funds to UNFPA Supplies and protect women’s lives everywhere.
