Learn More about this cause:

Right now, Brazil is on the brink of approving a catastrophic oil drilling project off the coast of the Amazon — one of the most sensitive and vital ecosystems on Earth.

This is the mouth of the mighty Amazon River, home to the newly discovered Great Amazon Reef System and the largest continuous mangrove belt on the planet. These waters are nurseries for marine life and a source of food, income, and culture for thousands of coastal, riverside, and Indigenous communities. One oil spill here could unleash irreversible destruction.

And the risks aren’t hypothetical. Brazil’s own environmental experts at Ibama have recommended against the drilling. But fossil fuel interests are pushing hard — and unless we speak out, the government could give in.

This is a defining moment. Brazil has everything it needs to lead a fair, clean energy transition that respects people and nature — but it must break with oil, not deepen its dependence on it.

Join Global Citizen and Greenpeace Brazil in calling on President Lula to reject oil on the Amazon Coast and protect what truly powers our future.
