When it comes to empowering women, Canada’s new government has taken several bold and exciting steps, like appointing a gender-balanced cabinet because, as Prime Minister Trudeau said last year: “It’s 2016”.
Canada has also committed to maintain international momentum in support of the Global Goals by making the health of girls and women a top development priority.
Now, we need Canada to showcase its leadership by taking a stand in support of She Decides, an initiative spearheaded by the Netherlands that aims to replace the USD $600 million in funding that will be lost to global health programs as a result of the reimposed “Global Gag Rule” in the United States.
On March 2nd, the Belgian Government will host a pledging conference inviting countries like Canada to put their money where their mouth is. This funding gap will have real consequences for the lives of women all around the world and we need the assistance of countries, like Canada, to ensure that women’s health is not put in jeopardy.
Tweet at the Canadian Minister for International Development, Marie-Claude Bibeau, and tell her you want to see Canada stand up for the health of girls and women at the pledging conference in Brussels.
