Right now in Nigeria, an estimated 87 million people live in extreme poverty — struggling to survive on less than USD $1.90 per day.
Every year, millions of children miss out on school or don’t eat the nutritious food they need, impacting opportunities for the rest of their lives. Meanwhile, over 70% of the country lacks access to water and sanitation, and the healthcare system is struggling to keep up — leaving 134 million in need of treatment against neglected tropical diseases.
No child should miss out on the basic health, food, education, and clean water and sanitation they need to survive and thrive — and these issues cannot be overcome without bigger investments from the Nigerian ministries of health, agriculture, finance, and water resources.
On August 21, President Muhammadu Buhari swore in his new cabinet — individuals who have the power to create real change for the Nigerian citizens they represent. The actions of these individuals will determine whether every child can survive and thrive — and ultimately whether Nigeria is able to end extreme poverty by 2030.
Join our call: ask the new ministers to step up and increase budgets for health, education, water and sanitation, and nutrition to ensure every Nigerian child can survive and thrive.
