We stopped the massive $4.3 billion cuts to US aid proposed by the White House, but our work is not done!
We’ve reviewed the details, crunched the numbers, and left no stone unturned to make sure this threat is truly over.
Here’s what we know: there’s still a 2% daily cap on US aid spending that remains in place, and funding has still not been restored to regions like the Northern Triangle where a withdrawal of US aid will only exacerbate poverty and conflict.
We still need your help to ensure members of the Administration remove the caps, restore ALL critical aid funding, and stop playing politics with US aid so that this ongoing cycle of trying to roll back our aid budget will finally end. That starts with reminding White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney and Acting Budget Director Russell Vought why we need to keep US aid flowing.
Global Citizens sent thousands of messages to Secretary Pompeo and Members of Congress, calling on them to be a champion for US aid. Secretary Pompeo, as well as Secretary Mnuchin, spoke out and helped stop the massive proposed cuts. Republican and Democratic leadership in Congress heard you too and called on the Administration to back down from dangerous cuts to US aid.
Our work is not yet done. Take action now to tell White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney and Acting Budget Director Russell Vought to stop playing politics with US aid, and say ‘thank you’ to Members of Congress and the Administration who stood up to these massive cuts so that they know we recognize their responsiveness and effort.
