Despite recent efforts to portray a modernizing image, Saudi Arabia's human rights reality remains harsh. Human rights defenders, women, migrant workers, and anyone voicing critical views face unjust treatment, while the death penalty is used to stifle freedoms.

On 22 January 2024, UN member states issued recommendations during Saudi Arabia’s fourth Universal Periodic Review (UPR) to address such violations. Recommendations include releasing prisoners of conscience and abolishing the death penalty for child defendants.

But words alone won't bring change. Saudi Arabia must act now to uphold human rights! In their previous UPR in 2018, Saudi Arabia accepted most recommendations, yet little progress has been seen. The kingdom has until June to accept or reject new recommendations.

We cannot let this opportunity slip away! Together with organizations like ALQST, we must demand action from Saudi authorities. Join us in tweeting and sharing an open letter urging Saudi Arabia to accept and implement UPR recommendations.

Let's be the voice for those whose rights are being trampled. Together, we can make a difference.
