Development cooperation is facing a global crisis. Around the world, major economies are cutting their aid budgets—with devastating consequences for people living in poverty and for efforts to protect health, education, and the climate.
The numbers speak for themselves:
Nearly 700 million people are living in extreme poverty.
In 2024, over 295 million faced acute hunger.
By 2050, climate change could force 216 million people to leave their homes.
At a time like this, Germany—one of the world’s wealthiest nations—has a responsibility to act. Not just with words, but through concrete budget decisions.
Because of last year’s government collapse, no federal budget was passed for 2025—and the most recent draft proposed severe cuts, especially to the development ministry. That’s why this late summer and fall, the Bundestag will be voting on not one, but two budgets: for 2025 and 2026.
We’re calling on the German government and party leaders to push back against the global wave of cuts and stand up for justice, stability, and climate protection.
Add your name now and urge the Bundestag to live up to Germany’s global responsibility.
