The world is facing its worst food crisis in decades, and it’s human-made. More people are hungry today than in 2015 when the Sustainable Development Goals were launched.
Millions are on the brink of famine, while 720 million people — roughly the population of the US and EU combined — go to bed hungry every night.
This crisis didn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of conflict, climate change, rising costs, and political inaction. Broken food systems are failing the people they’re meant to serve.
But change is possible. The world produces enough food to feed everyone. What’s missing is leadership and accountability. When governments act — funding nutrition programs, supporting small farmers, and fixing supply chains — hunger falls.
This World Food Day, let’s make the hunger crisis impossible to ignore. Join Global Citizens everywhere: hold up an empty plate, take a photo, post it on social media tagging leaders.
Let’s demand action and ensure every person has the food they need to live, grow, and thrive.
