DFID — which spends the majority of UK aid — has been ranked amongst the best in the world in this year’s Aid Transparency Index, and has an international reputation for reaching the poorest countries across the globe with the support they need.

Despite its incredible achievements, the government has decided to dismantle DFID and merge its staff, along with the majority of the UK aid budget, into the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) — which has been ranked in the world’s bottom ten for transparency and accountability.

We cannot let this decision undermine the incredible work UK aid does to eradicate poverty. Global Citizen is calling for the head of the FCO — Dominic Raab — to put in place essential measures to ensure our aid continues to reach those most in need.

These include making sure that at least 50% of aid budget is spent in low income countries, that a minister continues to sit in cabinet representing international development and that the UK continues to adhere to international rules on effective aid spending.

International aid is about helping the world’s poorest to ensure a better world for everyone. It is not about self-interest and foreign policy.

Help us to protect the essential work UK aid does. Tell Dominic Raab to keep UK aid effective.
