The separation of parents and children fleeing violence, persecution, and economic insecurity to seek asylum in the United States must end and all families must be reunited.
As UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has stated “children must not be traumatized by being separated from their parents,” and “family unity must be preserved.”
With President Trump’s executive order to end the separation of families, it is critical that Congress hold the Administration to their word and ensure that this crisis is truly ended and all children separated from their parents are reunited.
Further, it is critical that Congress recognize that the solution to this crisis ultimately rests in stopping the causes that make people flee their home countries and seek asylum.
Education, health, and peace are all central factors that the United States government can help encourage through foreign aid outlined in the 2019 SFOPS Appropriations Bill.
Take action now to end the separation of families, reunite parents and children, and help ensure the root of this crisis is solved.
