Australia: Rejoin IFAD and Help End The Hunger Crisis

The world is facing an unprecedented food crisis. Tell Australia to act now.

What to know:

  • Smallholder farmers produce a third of the world’s food but the climate crisis is devastating their harvests.
  • In the face of this food and nutrition crisis Australia must step up with knowledge and funding.
  • Join Hon. Melissa Parke, Tim Costello and others in calling Australia to support farmers and end the food crisis.

Learn More about this cause:

Globally, there are over 500 million smallholder farmers who produce a third of the world's food. These hard working men and women are at the root of the fruit, vegetables, grains and meat we consume daily but the changing climate is impacting every aspect of their production.

Destructive droughts, floods and wildfires are primary culprits behind their decreased harvests, leading to them being unable to turn a profit or support their immediate communities who depend on them for income and nutrition – especially in rural communities.

Right now, we urgently need the world to come together for our food producers. With the right tools and adequate resources they can help create jobs, defeat hunger and poverty. But we need world leaders to step up for them.

Investments in agriculture are three times more effective in reducing poverty in comparison to other sectors. And a country like Australia, which has the knowledge and expertise to unlock solutions for climate-affected communities around the world, should be doing more to lift us out of this crisis.

We need your help to push them to step up.

Send leaders from Australia this open letter which explains why they need to rejoin the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) as a member state – the only global UN agency supporting rural smallholder farmers.

Now is the time to put our full weight behind the people who put food on our plates.
