Moooooove out of Frank’s way!

Is what people in New York were saying last week.

Frank Lee was on the way to a Brooklyn slaughterhouse when he escaped and made a run for a...college education!

He soon found himself on York College’s campus in Queens, NY. His run for freedom (or education) was so public that the bull later met former Daily Show host, Jon Stewart!

This isn’t the first time livestock has escaped a scary journey. In particular, New York has had multiple incidents just recently. In January, just a few blocks away from the very same college, a cow managed to break free from a slaughterhouse in Jamaica, Queens. Similar animal escapes had been reported in the area in 2009 and 2011, and last month, a police horse, independent of his rider, galloped through the streets of New York City. The horse was sent back to active duty, but in many other livestock escapes, animals are returned to their owners at the slaughterhouses.

Thank goodness Frank had a better ending, but it makes you think about him escaping. It makes you think about all the meat in the world, all the cows like Frank that we have in contact with...at Burger King.

Vegetarian, Vegan, or Omnivore--Frank reminds us all to have a little more compassion and consideration for how we eat and how we treat the animals we live in this world with.

Now back to Frank. Feeling the sensation of freedom, Frank ran through the CUNY York campus, where he was shot by police with a stun gun and then taken to Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC).

Welp. That escalated quickly...

There, Jon and his award-winning author of a wife, Tracey Stewart, got involved to help him out on behalf of an animal rescue group organization that operates several shelters, called Farm Sanctuary

The two picked him up and drove him to Farm Sanctuary’s shelter in Watkins Glen, NY. Before leaving, a staff member at the shelter had given him the name: Frank Lee, for Frank Lee Morris, the prisoner who escaped from Alcatrazin 1962. Is that a badass name to live up to or what?

Even though retired from the Daily Show, Jon Stewart is still making his mark on the world by making a difference and caring about the creatures we share the world with.
