Dear G20 Sherpas,

The motto of this year’s G20 Summit is to shape an interconnected world. Indeed, we are all connected. Only together can we solve the world’s largest challenges. With this idea at its heart, the world agreed on 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development - a global commitment to end poverty, tackle climate change and fight inequalities by 2030. As the 20 largest economies in the world you have the ability and the responsibility to ensure that these goals are followed through.

Please use the upcoming sherpa meetings and the G20 Summit in July to progress the implementation of the Global Goals and invest in education, health, gender equality, water and sanitation, nutrition and refugees.

We call on you to adopt the following concrete measures:

Quality education for all children: Support the establishment of an International Financing Facility for education, support full replenishment of the Global Partnership for Education to get to $2BN in funds per year by 2020, and pledge $3.85B by 2021 to fully fund the Education Cannot Wait fund.

Universal access to health: Bridge the $1.3BN funding shortfall facing the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), increase access and affordability of vaccines and medicines for the world’s poorest, and take concrete steps to strengthen global health security through increased coordination and investment in pandemic preparedness.

Equality for women in workplace: Re-commit to reduce the gap in female-male labor force participation rates by 25% by 2025, and support this with clear policy and financial commitments, indicators and timelines at the national level, and an annual reporting mechanism.

Sanitation for all: Pledge to prioritizing sanitation as necessary to achieving Hangzhou G20 Action Plan on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development commitments to health, nutrition and gender equality. In doing so, implement policies to end open defecation, prioritize fecal sludge management and promote access to resources for proper menstrual hygiene management.

Critical support for refugees: Scale up financial support to provide basic services, education and employment opportunities for all refugees and expand legal pathways for resettlement.

Ending all forms of malnutrition by 2030: Outline your contribution to achieving SDG II -  to end all forms of malnutrition by 2030 -  and develop a plan on how to reach your nutrition targets to be announced at the 2018 G20 in Argentina.
