Technology has revolutionized the way healthcare is delivered across rural Sub-Saharan Africa. Community Health Workers are connecting to patient records, accessing expert advice, receiving emergency calls and giving families vital information through Public Service Announcements: all through a smartphone. This technology is no longer a helpful addition, but an integral and necessary part of the successful delivery of health services in areas far from the nearest health centre.

Through the great work of the ITU/UNESCO Broadband Commission for Digital Development, broadband is now reaching the most rural parts of the world. However, data charges can sometimes limit full use of these services.

The 1 Million Community Health Worker Campaign is calling for a major scale-up of these health workers in Sub-Saharan Africa to meet the health related Millennium Development Goals. We need to make sure that these health workers are able to harness this life-saving technology.

Send the email below to the Broadband Commission* and to the industry leaders to support the 1 Million Community Health Workers Campaign by providing free data, airtime, smartphones, or other support for Community Health Workers to help reach the Millennium Development Goals by 2015.

* The Broadband Commission is a network of some of the bigger players in he telecommunications industry.
